CHARLOTTE -- With just a few days until the Coca Cola 500, hundreds of people have already set up camp around the speedway.
Flags of many colors are flying, including the controversial Confederate flag.
In wake of the deadly shootings in Charleston this past June, Charlotte Motor Speedway along with tracks across the country have asked fans to voluntarily exchange their Confederate flags for American flags.
Others, including those who don't fly the flag themselves, question that decision.
"People died for that flag, so I don't think it's right for them to take it away," said Brock Smith, camper at NASCAR.
"I think it might hurt the economy of NASCAR, and it may make them lose a little bit more money," said Bo Smith, camper at NASCAR.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway says fans are encouraged to trade their flags in at the gift shops.
Race officials say across the country only a handful turned in their flags this summer.
