CHARLOTTE—A young Charlotte girl, 10-year-old Grace Daniels, has won numerous swim meets and donated all the money earned to the Charlotte Rescue Mission.
“I just wanted to share my money with the less fortunate. I want to end homelessness,” said Daniels.
Instead of asking for gifts after winning her swim meets, Daniels asked for $10 for each victory. On Monday, she gave what she has earned to the Charlotte Rescue Mission, an organization that helps homeless men and women who may be struggling with addiction.
“I saw Charlotte Rescue Mission and I heard it was Christian. And yeah, it made me want to swim harder and try my best. Even though I might lose, but I still know that I'm trying to help the homeless,” said Daniels.
Reverend Tony Marciano said the donation will certainly help, but it's the logo Daniels created, "Laps for Love," that will truly touch people's hearts.
“At the core of addiction is a sense of shame. It says that I'm not worthy of love, and grace's idea of Laps for Love is sending a message to folks struggling with addiction that you're loved. You have value,” said Marciano.
For Daniels, with her family's encouragement, she is well on her way to accomplishing her dream.
