CHARLOTTE- The deadline has come and gone, and the Circle University City apartments across the street from UNC Charlotte is now empty.
Students living there got only a week's notice to pack up and move because of structural damage.
One resident moving out Iman Brown said "My parents are really upset but the thing is we can't really do anything about it. We just have to move out."
She's one of hundreds of people who found out last Tuesday they have to move within a week.
She said "I think that's very irresponsible actually because they are not thinking about people that are studying abroad, people who are in California, they have to come back and move their stuff. Like, how are we supposed to do all that in a week?"
Crescent Communities is the management company for the Circle University City apartment complex. It has to make floor modifications and needs the units to be vacant.
The floor problem dates back to more than 3 months ago February 9th.That's when the county Code Enforcement deemed two units unsafe. The report said more than 80 students jumping up and down caused the floor to sink by about an inch.
Students who had to juggle working, taking classes and moving all in one week, said the apartment has given them $500 to move. Those renewing the lease in the fall will get an additional $140 a week for their hotel stay.
But they said no amount of money will make up for the time they spent, scrambling to find a new place to live.
Will Johnson said "It say your know we are not asking for any more money, legal direction or anything like that so $500 is basically their severance to us. (Is that enough?) No it doesn't feel like enough."
