CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte City Council heard from more than a dozen people on Monday night about its plans to expand the Blue Line Light Rail to University City and UNC Charlotte.

Many people spoke in support of the plans saying they look forward to walkable green space along the new line, while some speakers were concerned about whether the plans will actually be developed.

"As shown with the current LYNX Blue Line transit oriented development draws investment along the light rail encourages urban style development within walking distance of the stations. This will be critical in linking the university with nearby employment centers and business districts," said Bob Wilheim, UNC Charlotte.

The Charlotte City Council still needs to adopt its new plans for the Blue Line extension.
