GREENSBORO -- Fifty-five years ago on Sunday, four black freshmen at North Carolina A&T University made history at the "whites only" Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro.

It's the anniversary of the Greensboro Four's first sit-in that set off a chain reaction of demonstrations, driving the civil rights movement in the South.

The bold move made Joseph McNeil, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, Jr. and David Richmond civil rights icons.

Five months later, Woolworth's integrated all its stores.

The site of the Greensboro Woolworth’s is now the home of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum.
