CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte has plenty of BBQ restaurants, but not enough BBQ joints.

“Old school, original, nothing fancy, no frills,” Owner of Sweet Lew’s BBQ, Lewis Donald said.

Sweet Lew’s BBQ serves up simple recipes, simply cooked.

“Some of the most famous famous place are not the fanciest places,” Donald said. “They don’t serve the fanciest food, there's not a lot of tableside service involved.”

Sweet Lew’s cooks its meats upwards of 12 hours over hickory and pecan wood.

“And that’s what I think sets the flavor off. It’s all 100 percent wood,” Donald said. “We’re not trying to recreate the wheel. We’re just trying to bring the wheel back.”
