CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If food tastes better closer to the source, then the best flavors may be found at Heirloom Restaurant.

“We source every ingredient from North Carolina farms, producers, and small businesses,” head chef and owner Clark Barlowe said “When I say everything, I mean everything.”

The food, its ingredients, the walls decor, and even the bathroom soap are made in North Carolina.

“My family's from North Carolina. Seven generations, all from North Carolina,” Barlowe said. “So we wanted to put that lineage, that heritage, all into our food here.”

And the recipes are inspired by some of the oldest inhabitants of the Tar Heel State.

“Predominantly, I’m inspired by Cherokee recipes because that's as far back as you can go,” Barlowe said.

Creating a menu and atmosphere thats authentically North Carolina.
