Chefs turn basic ingredients into something precious. The South end restaurant tries to distill the history of Indian flavors into a single page of masterpieces.
“We have a one page menu,” general manager Jimmy Bunker said. “It doesn't look like a typical Indian restaurant because [an] Indian restaurant is supposed to have hundred page menu.”
Avoiding hundreds of options, until you look at the drink selection. Copper Modern Indian Cuisine offers more than 200 wines and specialty cocktails tailored to match each specific dish. Including the bar’s specialty, “The Hazy Mumbai.”
Bartenders aerate the glass with an absinthe liquor before pouring dry whiskey and a house-made sour mix. The Hazy Mumbai is seasoned with dried cumin seeds, chopped ginger, and bitters.
Using the same ingredients in the glass you'll find on the dinner plate, Copper matches specialty drinks with it’s signature dishes. It’s most famous being the chicken tikka masala.
A tomato and cream based spiced-curry sauce drizzled over marinated chicken breast. Served alongside made from scratch naan bread and rice making for a simple, yet elegant dining experience.
“We feel people are not here for quick food,” Buker said. “We feel people are here for good food. And we want them to enjoy it all.”
Taking classic Indian dishes, adding a contemporary twist; creating something completely new, yet completely familiar.
