CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A business owner is making it easier for plus size women to find fashionable clothes.
What You Need To Know
- Summer Lucille advocates for plus size women, offering fashionable clothing
- Lucille gained social media fame with her TikTok account
- One little thing she wants people to know is they don’t need to qualify their compliments
Summer Lucille owns Juicy Body Goddess, a clothing line carrying sizes XL to 8X.
Throughout her life, Lucille said she struggled to find fashionable outfits in her size.
“It made me feel like I wasn’t right. I was the wrong size. I was not supposed to be in this body,” Lucille said.
She turned this challenge into an opportunity, focusing on plus sizes at her Charlotte boutique, Material Girl, since 2015.
“My purpose is to make women feel good, making them look good,” Lucille said.
This year, Lucille has gained more customers after becoming famous on social media.
In March, she started making videos on TikTok and going live on the app with the purpose of giving women confidence and promoting her business.
“Be happy where you are. If you are uncomfortable where you are and if you want to change it but still be comfortable in your skin,” Lucille said.
With nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok, Lucille said she ships 2,500 orders a day worldwide.
“It was a big jump for me. I’m so grateful. I’m so thankful,” Lucille said.
With a larger platform, she’s also advocating for other plus size women.
One of the t-shirts for sale at her store reads: “Yes, I’m fat. Yes, I’m sexy. No, I’m not ugly.”
Lucille said the inspiration for this shirt came from people saying to her, "You are pretty for a big girl."
“It’s distasteful, and it makes me think you think fat people are ugly,” Lucille said.
One little thing Lucille wants you to know is you don’t need to qualify your compliments. You can phrase it differently.
“Just say I’m pretty or just say you like my dress,” Lucille said.
In addition, she said you don’t have to give her unsolicited diet advice when you meet her.
“I’ve tried them all, I’ve conquered them. I’ve lost weight, and we are still here,” Lucille said.
Lucille said she’s happy with her looks, and she’s incorporating healthy habits in her lifestyle.
She encourages women to be happy, no matter their size, while staying healthy.
