A new report from the Center for an Urban Future details ways the city can help keep young families in the five boroughs.
Between 2020 and 2023, the population of children under the age of five in the city declined by 18.3%, which is nearly four times the national average, according to the report.
While some of the loss can be explained by a declining birth rate, the rest is because of families relocating to the suburbs, mostly over rising housing costs.
The report also lays out several suggestions to reverse this trend.
Eli Dvorkin, the editorial and policy director at the Center for an Urban Future, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to talk about the report and more.
