RALEIGH – All month long, we’re taking a look at the rarely heard stories of African Americans who made a lasting impact on North Carolina.  This Black History Month, Spectrum News Anchor Caroline Blair sat down with Earl Ijames, curator at the North Carolina History Museum, to chat about a troop that served alongside General Sherman in the Civil War.

Ijames also describes how these men helped not only to capture important battles in the south, but also create infrastructure that connected communities, many that we still use today.
