LA MIRADA, Calif. — Juneteenth is the newest federal holiday that celebrates and remembers Black slaves in Texas, who were informed of their freedom months after the Emancipation Proclamation.

“Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom” is a documentary exploring the holiday and how Christianity was used to justify American slavery.

Screenings are taking place this Black History Month at predominantly white institutions to not only teach about Juneteenth but to expand the conversation about diversity, inclusion and race.
