RALEIGH, N.C. – During the season of presidential debates, another political event with lower stakes took place on Wednesday at Fuller Magnet Elementary School.
- Fuller Magnet Elementary School hosted Take Our Elected Officials to School Day
- Raleigh Mayor Pro Tem Corey Branch participated
- Students got to ask questions to local politicians
Many local politicians met with students, teachers, and staff at the Third Annual Take Our Elected Officials to School Day.
Former Fuller student and Raleigh Mayor Pro Tem Corey Branch participated.
“It’s always good to come back to Fuller,” Branch said. “You have someone who used to sit right here and now sitting here serving and giving back. I think it’s key.”
The event has proven to be popular.
“As I was inviting elected officials again, I had one comment, ‘I hope I make the list to be invited back,’ ” Fuller PTA Advocacy Chair Suzanne Miller said.
Some of the third and fourth grade students’ questions may not have been hard-hitting but were still noteworthy.
“How long have you been an elected official?” third grade student Will Davis asked.
“Did you want to have your job, and if not, what job did you want?” fourth-grader Elias Halbleib asked.
Fuller principal Kendra Culberson said the event is important for students learning about their area.
“They see on TV or know within their community to be able to ask questions and learn about their leadership roles as children will help our own students set goals for their future,” Culberson said.
