The U.S. House of Representatives finally returns to normal business a day after the election of conservative Congressman Mike Johnson as speaker. With his elevation to one of the most powerful jobs in Washington, Johnson’s views on everything from abortion rights to same sex marriage suddenly are in the spotlight. Our Reena Diamante has all the details on the new speaker from Capitol Hill.

Impact of new N.C. voting maps

Back here in North Carolina, we’re already seeing some of the impacts of our state’s newly approved congressional map. Congressman Jeff Jackson, who currently represents the 14th district, announced Thursday that he is running for state attorney general instead of seeking reelection. The new 14th district leans heavily Republican, as opposed to the Democratic lean it currently has.

Former Congressman Mark Walker dropped out of N.C.’s Republican gubernatorial race shortly after the congressional map became official. Walker then announced that he is now running in the new 6th congressional district. He joins us to discuss this decision.

Attorneys general sue Meta

Attorney General Josh Stein is taking a leading role in a new lawsuit by over 30 attorneys general alleging that Meta’s social media platforms are unsafe for children. The lawsuit argues that the company knows that Facebook and Instagram are harmful to kids and don’t do enough to fix the issues. Stein stops by with more on the case.
