Redistricting in North Carolina

The North Carolina district re-drawing process, which is only supposed to happen once a decade, is happening now for the fifth time in the past six years. New map proposals were released yesterday and discussed in General Assembly committees today; it's expected they'll be voted on next week. There are two proposals for the new congressional map, both of which would likely make for Democrats losing at least three seats. Dr. Chris Cooper of Western Carolina University and Asher Hildebrand of Duke University, two political professors and redistricting experts, help us break down the new proposals.

Then, Spectrum News 1 reporter Jenna Rae Gaertner introduces us to some people who live in these constantly redrawn districts, who say they are frustrated and looking for consistency.

Speaker Race

From outside the Capitol, our Washington reporter Reuben Jones has the latest on the House speaker situation. A plan to give North Carolina Congressman Patrick McHenry more power as acting Speaker of the House appears to have fallen apart (for now) among Republicans, and Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio says he's staying in the race despite nearly two dozen Republicans voting against him.
