Britni McDonald is an Emmy Award-winning statewide evening anchor for Spectrum News 1 North Carolina. She joined the team in July 2019 and has since been named TV News Anchor of the Year by the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas in 2024.

After growing up in Massachusetts and graduating from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois, Britni's career in journalism has led her through several states across the country. Britni has anchored and reported in Fort Myers, Florida; Richmond, Virginia; Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Casper, Wyoming.

Some of Britni’s most memorable assignments include covering a NASA shuttle launch from the Kennedy Space Center, the arrival of Air Force One for a presidential visit, Fidel Castro’s death in Miami, and hosting a live panel discussion in Asheville following Hurricane Helene. She has also interviewed celebrities, like Rainn Wilson, Carson Daly and Joel McHale. Britni especially loved telling the story of a little girl who beat cancer thanks to blood donations, which earned her second place in the health and medicine category from the RTDNAC. But one of her favorite reporting experiences was being transformed into a zombie while covering SCarowinds, the Carolinas' largest Halloween event.

Britni is the proud recipient of two Emmy Awards and several regional awards for her breaking news, photography and ongoing coverage of human trafficking. Her coverage of the 2024 primary election helped her and her team win first place in the politics and election category from the RTDNAC. Her around-the-clock anchoring during Hurricane Irma in Florida also helped her station win an Associated Press Award.

Today, Britni loves living in between the beautiful North Carolina mountains and beaches. Outside the newsroom, she spends her time practicing yoga, hiking, seeing musicals and watching movies.
