Scott Dean joined Spectrum News 1 in November of 2019.

This proud Southern native considers weather broadcasting his true calling in life. He has covered tons of major weather events in his career spanning over twenty years.

Dean is a member of the American Meteorological Society, and has been awarded its broadcasting seal.

He covered the aerial coverage of the F4 tornado in 2000 that caused major damage to Ohio, the North Carolina tornado outbreak in 2011 that produced the most tornadoes in a single day to the state.

He has also covered several hurricanes, including Sandy that devastated portions of the Mid-Atlantic coast in 2012.

Dean’s most notable reporting followed Hurricane Florence in September 2018, a storm that produced historic flooding to southeast North Carolina. His team logged over 83 hours of continuous storm coverage.

Dean can be found golfing, fly fishing, or enjoying eastern style North Carolina BBQ when he isn’t reporting the weather.
