Cities are lining up to tell state lawmakers they oppose bills introduced in Jefferson City that would eliminate state and local sales taxes collected on food. The idea is to allow shoppers to keep more of their money at a time when inflation worries are still top of mind. But the problem, local municipal leaders say, is it would lead to service cuts at the local level.

2. St. Louis Circuit Attorney refiles motion to vacate Christopher Dunn's murder conviction

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney is asking the court to vacate the murder conviction of Christopher Dunn. Dunn was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the 1990 murder of 15-year-old Ricco Rogers in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood.

3. Marijuana deal in Oakville led to fatal shooting of two teenages, injured a third

The second person who died in Monday's shooting in south St. Louis County has been identified by police. Authorities say the shooting resulted over the sale of marijuana cartridges, which left two people dead and a third injured. Sixteen-year-old Tyree Williams was transported to a hospital for gunshot wounds after police responded to a report of a shooting in the 5600 block of Chalet Hill Drive around 1:50 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found three males shot.

4. Authorities searching for missing Marine Corps helicopter in San Diego area

Crews were searching for a Marine Corps helicopter carrying five troops from Nevada to California that was reported overdue early Wednesday as a historic storm continued drenching California. The Marines were flying a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter from Creech Air Force Base in Clark County, Nevada, where they had been doing unit-level training and were returning home to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, defense officials said.

5. Senate set to move forward with Ukraine, Israel funding without border provisions

The Democratic-led Senate is set to hold a procedural vote on Wednesday to advance a bipartisan $118 billion bill that would pair Ukraine and Israel funding with border security enhancements despite Republicans in the chamber declaring the bill all but dead amid outcry from House GOP leadership and Donald Trump, the former president and party’s frontrunner in November’s election.
