A man is now charged for a nearly 12-hour standoff at the Drury Plaza Hotel downtown earlier this week. The woman and two children involved were unharmed.
The Circuit Attorney’s Office charged 43-year-old William Gourley with three counts of Kidnapping, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and five counts of Armed Criminal Action.
Gourley is still being evaluated at a hospital.
Court documents show he previously served four years for gun and drug charges. Police say the man suffers from PTSD but didn't say specifically what led up to the incident.
Sgt. Charles Wall with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Dept. says a child called 911 around 5:13 a.m. indicating they were locked in a bathroom with a sibling. The child also told police there was a man fighting with his mother.
The man eventually got on the phone and indicated he had a weapon, said Wall.
The SWAT team and hostage negotiators have responded to the scene. Police say they have been in contact with the suspect and are working to bring the incident to a peaceful resolution.
Wall says the incident was contained to the hotel room and some guests have been evacuated as a precaution. He said police believe there is no threat to the public.
