One man is being charged in the killing of a 37-year-old woman March 22 in South Berwick, according to state police.
South Berwick police received a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute and shots fired at 48 Brattle St.
“Jeremiah Godfrey, 43 years old, called 911 and reported that he had an argument with his girlfriend, Sherri Sweet,” State Police Lt. Aaron M. Turcotte said in a news release. “Godfrey described a struggle over the gun, and Sweet sustained a gunshot wound and was unresponsive.”
Sweet was transported to Portsmouth Hospital. She was pronounced dead March 23.
An autopsy by the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office found the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was homicide, Turcotte said.
Godfrey was arrested for murder at noon on Wednesday in South Berwick and transported to York County Jail, Turcotte said.
