The OIA showed up in a big way on the first weekend of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division II championships.

Oahu Interscholastic Association champion Roosevelt and runner-up Kaiser won their first-round matchups on their home island on Saturday, with the Rough Riders holding off BIIF champion Kamehameha-Hawaii, 13-7, and the Cougars blanking de facto ILH winner Pac-Five, 30-0.

Roosevelt’s win at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium marked the second straight year it hosted and beat the Warriors from the Big Island in states.

The fourth-seeded Rough Riders (9-2) won their sixth straight game and advanced to face top-seeded Kamehameha-Maui (7-3) at 7 p.m. at Pukalani, Maui, on Friday.

The game was scoreless until the third quarter, when quarterback Ioane Kamanao found Keawe Davis for a 2-yard touchdown. Davis led the Rough Riders with eight catches for 86 yards, while Jerry Wu snagged six balls for 85 yards.

Kamanao was 21-for-30 for 211 yards and two interceptions.

KSH quarterback Adam Perry was held to 4-for-16 passing with two picks, but he ran in the Warriors’ only score of the game, a 13-yard TD in the third quarter to get his team within 10-7. Journey DePeralta stuck a 28-yard field goal in the fourth to complete the scoring.

Kaiser, meanwhile, scored a touchdown in each quarter and held the Wolfpack out of the endzone to make their game at Skippa Diaz Stadium a no-contest.

The Cougars (9-2) turned to dual threat quarterback Jesse Shinagawa to lead them into the semifinals, where they will face Kauai at Vidinha Stadium at 2 p.m. Saturday. The junior passed for 165 yards and ran for 82 more, tossing two touchdowns and running for one.

Taiyo Fuji got the scoring started with a 1-yard fumble return for the Cougars.

Explosive running back Seth Miller was held to 53 yards on 12 carries for Pac-Five (6-2), which achieved its first-ever win at Iolani this season.
