The Hawaii women’s volleyball team followed up a letdown on the first day of TCU’s Fight in the Fort tournament by sweeping its next two opponents.
UH easily dispatched Western Carolina on Friday and followed up by topping Florida State, 32-30, 25-23, 25-13 on Saturday at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, to conclude nonconference play with a 7-4 record.
After surviving its longest set of the season to begin their early afternoon match, the Rainbow Wahine recovered from a six-point hole in Set 2 and routed the Seminoles in Set 3.
UH held FSU (5-6), the nation’s leader in hitting percentage (.347) entering the day, to a season-low .173.
Caylen Alexander led the way with her fifth straight double-double, 15 kills and 13 digs, while Amber Igiede supplies 14 kills and Riley Wagoner 12 kills and 10 digs.
UH’s second middle, Kennedi Evans, also came up big with eight kills and seven blocks while libero Talia Edmonds had 19 digs.
Alexander and Igiede were named to the all-tournament team. TCU, which topped UH in four sets on Thursday, was poised to win the four-team tournament if it could beat Western Carolina later Saturday.
Big West Conference play begins at home Friday against Cal State Bakersfield followed by Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
