The University of Hawaii is looking for community participants for two-hour virtual focus groups to help develop the Red Hill Registry.

The Red Hill Registry, funded by a $27.2 million federal grant, will track the health outcomes of individuals impacted by the Red Hill water crisis and connect them with resources. 

The Registry team is currently in the planning and community engagement stage of creating the Registry, which will launch in mid 2025. 

Virtual focus groups will be held from Nov. 21 to 26, and affected community members, concerned Oahu residents, and professionals who responded to the crisis are invited to participate. 

"We are committed to co-designing the Registry with the community, including by asking key questions in these focus groups," said Tara Sutton, director of community engagement for the Red Hill Registry, in a news release. "We seek to understand what resources the community would like the Registry to offer and how the Registry can best operate to meet community needs."

Virtual Community Focus Groups (limited to 16-24 participants per category): 

  • Impacted Community Members: (Register here)
    Sessions dedicated to those who were exposed to the contaminated water at their home, workplace, school, or child care center. 

  • Concerned Oahu Residents (Not Directly Exposed): (Register here)
    Open to residents interested in discussing the impacts of the Red Hill water crisis from a broader community perspective. 

  • Professional Service Providers and Advocates: (Register here)
    Focus groups designed for professionals who responded to the crisis or provided support to those affected, such as healthcare providers, educators, advocates, and agency representatives.
