The City and County of Honolulu announced the completion of repair work to the parking lot at Sharks Cove on Oahu’s North Shore.

The project began on July 29, 2024, to fix the distressed retaining wall. Initially, the work was expected to be finished by Nov. 25, 2024, but the contractor completed the work ahead of schedule, according to a news release.

The work involved rebuilding a section of the dry-stacked rock wall by adding new rocks with mortar. The wall supports the park’s access road, which is used to reach Sharks Cove.

The area was backfilled and compacted, which included laying an aggregate base, paving with asphalt, and painting parking lines.

The asphalt pavement for the park’s access road and Waimea Bay-side parking lot was given time to cure before these areas were reopened Monday. The Kahuku-side parking lot will remain closed while the contractor completes striping, which is expected to be completed later this week.
