The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation announced the second segment of the Skyline rail system, which runs from Aloha Stadium Station to the Middle Street Section, will be energized starting on Monday.

HART officials expect to open this segment of Skyline in late 2025, according to a news release. A third segment from Mokauea Kalihi station to Kaakaukukui Civic Center station is scheduled to open in 2031.

By energizing the second segment of the rail system, HART personnel will be able to conduct tests along this part of the system. As testing begins, the public may see trains moving along the rail guideway from Aloha Stadium Station, past the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and Pearl Harbor to the Middle Street Station.

The entire rail system is powered by a “third rail,” which delivers 750 volts of electricity.

HART emphasized that any contact with the third rail will cause death. Accessing the rail facilities in the second segment is prohibited, as it remains a dangerous work zone, and violators will be prosecuted, according to HART.
