The Honolulu Museum of Art is taking part in Museums for All. It’s a national program run by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, where people with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits can show their SNAP card for free entry to the museum for up to four people.

“HoMA is proud to join Museums for All, strengthening our mission of being a gathering place where art, history, culture, and education converge for the benefit of the entire community,” said Halona Norton-Westbrook, director and CEO of the Honolulu Museum of Art, in a news release.

The Bishop Museum joined the program in 2022, which allows SNAP benefit recipients free entry to the museum for up to four people and free parking.

More than 1,200 other museums and institutions, such as botanical gardens, zoos and science centers, located across the U.S. take part in Museums for All. Since 2015, Museums for All has covered $119 million in admissions for SNAP card holders.

“Museums for All is a natural expansion of our other community accessibility programs, including our Youth Art School Scholarship program, Family Sundays, Community Days and free admission for all young people age 18 and under,” Norton-Westbrook added.

HoMA’s Youth Arts Scholarship program provides free HoMA Art School tuition for students ages 3 to 18 who could not attend because of financial barriers. Applications for the next round of scholarships opens May 1 for the July-September session.

On the third Sunday of every month, HoMA hosts Community Days, when admission is free for Hawaii residents. Every three months, HoMA hosts Family Sunday, when admission is free for Hawaii residents and activities are planned for children. The next Family Sunday is this Sunday.

The museum always offers free admission to children 18 and under.
