KAHULUI, Hawaii — The Department of Health granted Paradise Supermart Fast Food & Catering in Kahului permission to reopen after forcing it to close for multiple food safety violations, according to a news release.
The Filipino grocery store and takeout spot, which is operated by Paradise Asian Foods, Inc., received a red “closed” placard Tuesday.
DOH conducted a follow-up inspection the following day. According to DOH, the most significant violations were resolved, which included removing fresh vegetables that contained mold and dead flies and fixing handwashing sinks.
On Wednesday, DOH issued Paradise Supermart a yellow “conditional pass” placard.
The inspectors said some food safety issues remained:
Refrigeration that wasn’t holding safe temperatures needed to be emptied of foods
Entry points for pests need to be repaired
Additional clean-up of grease and debris needs to be completed
A second follow-up inspection is scheduled for Nov. 28, 2023.
