KAHULUI, Hawaii — Paradise Supermart Fast Food & Catering in Kahului has been closed until food safety violations are resolved, according to a Hawaii Department of Health news release. 

DOH’s Maui Food Safety Branch issued a red “closed” placard to the Filipino grocery store and fast food takeout spot on Tuesday, citing multiple critical food safety violations. Their inspection occurred as a result of a complaint. The food spot is operated by Paradise Asian Foods, Inc. 

According to DOH, the violations included: 

  • refrigerators that were not holding foods at a proper temperature

  • handwashing sinks were not accessible and in need of repair 

  • fresh vegetables that contained mold and dead flies 

  • live animals, fish and flies on the premises

  • openings in perimeter walls that allow pests to enter

  • grease build-up, food debris, unsanitary conditions and general clutter

DOH informed the business it must remain closed until all violations are resolved.

A follow-up inspection is set for Wednesday.
