HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources advises the public of the upcoming closure of the Manoa Falls Trail beginning June 26 for maintenance and repairs, according to a news release.
The KUPU Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps will assist the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife staff with work that includes trail hardening and run-off management to reduce soil erosion and slippery conditions caused by heavy foot traffic and the wet climate of Manoa Valley.
Heavy equipment will be operating on possibly unstable terrain, so the closure ensures everyone’s safety. The repairs will not only help to sustain the trail; it will also improve the hiking experience for the estimated 200,000 people who visit it each year.
The trail will be closed for approximately five days and DLNR anticipates its reopening on July 1.
The public can contact Oahu Na Ala Hele Trails and Access Specialist Aaron Lowe at 808-973-9782 for information about the closure and regarding commercial tour use.
