Maui’s Piilani Highway, also known as Hawaii Route 31, on the south side of the island, is closed between MP 29 and 31 due to unpassable floodwaters, according to a Maui County news release.

The closure area is near Pahihi Gulch, between Manawainui and Kaupo. 

cold front is currently moving through the state, causing heavy rain and thunder. Most of the state remains under a Flood Watch until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.  

Oahu was impacted this morning, with businesses at Schofield Barracks and seven Department of Education schools closed due to power outages.

The heavy rains are now hitting Maui. The front is expected to stall and weaken near Hawaii Island on Thursday.
