U.S. Rep. Joe Morelle has won a fourth term in Congress, the Associated Press declares. Morelle defeats Republican businessman Gregg Sadwick 65.1% to 34.9%, according to the latest unofficial results from AP.
Morelle, the Democratic incumbent, will return to Washington to represent the Rochester area in the 25th Congressional District seat, which encompasses all of Monroe County and parts of northwestern Ontario County, including Victor.
Morelle was running for his fourth term in the House of Representatives.
“Well, my priorities are reducing costs for families," Morelle said last month. "We did it when it came to prescription drugs for people on Medicare. And we need to extend that to all people, reduce the cost of housing. And there's a lot of work that's going on that's really positive. So that's my top priority. Second is really to build an economy for everyone. So we're working really hard with organized labor, with our business community to try to create more jobs in the region, but that help everyone, not just a select few people. And then finally, just trying to assure reproductive rights for women throughout this country, not on a state by state basis, but to be protecting women's rights to their own health care nationally.”
Morelle serves as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and as ranking member of the Committee on House Administration.
He will be sworn in on Jan. 3 as a member of the 119th Congress.
