ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Patience — that’s what Rochester police are asking from people as thousands are planning to head downtown for the fireworks.

What You Need To Know

  • Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.

  • Court Street and Broad Street bridge closed to traffic during the fireworks

  • Pedestrians are also able to use the Court Street and Broad Street bridges for firework viewing

“We're going to get people into fireworks event as quickly as we can and we’re also going to people out of there as quickly as we can, but that’s going to take patience,” said Lt. Greg Bello, Rochester Police Department.

Drivers in the city need to be mindful of road closures for the fireworks. Rochester police officers will close the Court Street and Broad Street bridge to traffic during the event.

“Make sure they’re paying attention to officers directing traffic, it’s a lot of people coming into downtown at once,” said Bello.

The fireworks are set off where 490 crosses the river downtown. That means anywhere along the Genesee River and the Cornhill neighborhood are the best spots to see the show. Pedestrians are also able to use the Court Street and Broad Street bridges for firework viewing. With all these people coming into Rochester, officers say it’s important to be aware of your surroundings.

“If you see something, say something. Flag down an officer nearby or call 911 if there’s any issues,” said Bello.

Being mindful of surroundings, following traffic changes and of course being patient are key to keeping everyone safe and happy this holiday.
