The City of Rochester and the Rochester Police Locust Club have agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement, Locust Club President Geoffrey R. Wiater and Executive Vice President Paul Dondorfer announced Wednesday.

The Locust Club says the new contract provides for a 15.5% pay increase for members over the next four years (4%-3.75%-3.75%-4%), among other benefits.

“Our leadership team is thrilled to be able to deliver a fair contract to our members on time and after good faith negotiations with the City. We are grateful for our members’ broad support and approval of the contract,” Wiater said om a statement. “We thank Mayor Malik Evans and Chief David Smith for their shared willingness to get a fair deal done.”

"As I promised when I stepped into my role as Mayor, I remain committed to settling our labor contracts fairly and on time," Mayor Malik Evans said in a statement. "Our unionized public-sector employees deserve our attention and effort to timely outcomes. Our new contract with the Locust Club, effective July 1, is one of only two police union contracts finalized on-time in nearly 30 years – one in 2014, and another in 1997. This 2024 contract is competitive, fair, and a win for our City, our police officers, and our community."

Locust Club members overwhelmingly ratified the new contract in a vote earlier this week as the previous contract expired on June 30.
