The Webster Police Department has released the name of the driver of a car who died following a crash with a Wayne Central School District bus on Wednesday. The crash caused the bus to catch fire. It happened at the intersection of Webster Road (Rt. 250) and Lake Road.

Police say William Fierstein, 73 of Webster, was heading north on Webster Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of the school bus that was traveling east on Lake Road. Fierstein died at the scene, according to authorities. They say his dog that was with him at the time also died.

According to the Webster superintendent, 22 students and three adults were on board the bus at the time of the crash. The bus was returning from a high school field trip. The Webster PD says everyone on board was able to escape before the bus was engulfed in flames.

No students or school personnel suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the district. One student and one staff member went to the hospital for further assessment, the superintendent said.
