FREDONIA, N.Y. — The former location of Family Church Fredonia was filled with rejoice and laughter Sunday morning. It's not the typical reaction one would expect to hear after a fire, but members of the church are choosing to stay positive.

"We're excited for what's ahead because even though it was something that was sad, we're not robots, we do feel sadness. At the same time, we're choosing to rejoice because we know the end result is going to be good. So, we're very, very happy," said Family Church Fredonia Music Director Mercy Homer.

After Friday night's fire that destroyed the clock tower at 19 Church Street, members of the community jumped into action, and on Saturday, in about four hours, their former location on Lakeview Avenue was ready for service to continue as usual on Sunday.

Members filled up nearly all the chairs donated from other churches, and praised like any other day.

"So I didn't really go into it differently, I just knew that He'd still have a message to send just like we normally would and trusted Him to do it and it came through just like normal," said Associate Pastor Scott Wise.

He says they will rebuild, but until then, service will continue to be held at 45 Lakeview Ave. for the foreseeable future.

The clock tower on Church Street was supposed to be demolished Saturday, but that's been put on hold until a structural engineer can take a look.
