Crews will tear down part of a historic church damaged by a large fire in Fredonia.

Fire officials say they responded to Family Church Fredonia on Church Street just before 7 p.m. on Friday to find the clock tower engulfed in flames.

But by Saturday morning, volunteers from that Family Church Fredonia and others in the area were hard at work, making sure their regular church service will continue on Sunday at their former location on Lakeview Ave.

"We’re going to have service tomorrow and it’s not going to be a down service it’s going to be thanking God and rejoicing that of course everyone is safe but also rejoicing what he’s going to turn this situation around to for us," said Scott Wise, Associate Pastor of Family Church Fredonia.

And although this is a major setback for the congregation that just completed a million dollar renovation last year, he says this won’t bring down their spirit.

"We’re certainly going to rebuild we’re going to make it better than it was, we’ll be back over here for services as soon as we can. There’s a lot of work but we’ve done work before we’re not afraid of it we know that gods going to help us get to the other side of it," he said.

The majority of the damage was contained to the tower but as a safety precaution will have to be torn down.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Sunday's service will be held at 45 Lakeview Ave.
