What You Need To Know

  • NHC monitoring potential system off the Carolina coast

  • Heavy rain likely across Mid-Atlantic this week

  • The next name on the list is Helene

Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight is an area of low pressure hanging off the coast of North and South Carolina. The system already has tropical storm-force winds (>39 mph), but not all of the characteristics of a tropical system. However, it is possible that it could become a tropical storm over the next 12-24 hours. The next name on the list is Helene.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for much of the South Carolina coast as well as parts of North Carolina. This system will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic over the next few days.

While impacts to the Carolinas are expected, other parts of the mid-atlantic could experience heavy rain thanks to this system.
