While we have picked up much-needed moisture the past few days, overall March has been very dry. Unfortunately, drought conditions continue to expand across the state.
We ended in 2020 with nearly 80 percent of the state dealing with some level of drought. Now, 67 percent of the state is experiencing drought conditions. The worst of the drought remains across West Texas, the Texas Panhandle and South Texas.
In Dallas, 2.74 inches of rain has fallen so far this month, running a slight deficit of 0.14 inches. Since January 1, DFW Airport has only collected 7.53 inches of rain, which is 1.86 below normal.
Meanwhile, in Austin, Camp Mabry has picked up 2.25 inches of rain. This is 1.16 inches below what we typically pick up thus far into March.
San Antonio Airpot has also been dry this month, only seeing 1.90 inches of rain. They are also running a deficit for March, running 1.35 inches behind where they should be.
According to the Climate Prediction Center (CPC), drier than normal conditions are expected as we head into April 2021.
