Rain has been hard to come by across much of West Texas and the Panhandle as of late. Extreme to exceptional drought conditions continue to be felt across much of the region.

Drought conditions are also gripping parts of South Texas. Extreme drought stretches from the Edwards Plateau to the Rio Grande Valley.

Meanwhile, areas across North and Central Texas have seen major improvements. Near Dallas, drought has nearly been wiped away.

Drought conditions have shrunk quite a bit near the Austin Metro. However, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays and Blanco counties are still dealing with moderate drought. Austin-Camp Mabry is running 0.92” below average for precipitation since January 1.  

We ended 2020 with nearly 80% of the state dealing with some level of drought. Now, just 44% of the state is experiencing drought conditions.

According to the Climate Prediction Center (CPC), drier than normal conditions are expected as we head into the middle of February.
