TEXAS — Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, says he will file impeachment articles against President Donald Trump on Wednesday, just two weeks into his second term, citing the Israel-Hamas war as the reason.
The Houston-area congressman started off his speech in response to President Trump's most recent remarks about Gaza with the statement “ethnic cleansing is not a joke.” Trump revealed his controversial plans for the Gaza Strip in a news conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.
“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip,” Trump said. “We’ll own it. We have an opportunity to do something that could be phenomenal...the Riviera of the Middle East.”
In addition to “owning the strip,” Trump suggested that Gaza’s entire remaining population would relocate to other countries. There were no specifics presented on how Trump proposes the U.S. will carry out his proposals.
The Israel-Hamas war has been a 15-month long brutal tug of war that has left much of Gaza barren.
Following the denouncing of Trump's recent remarks and Prime Minister Netanyahu’s complicity, Green said he will bring articles of impeachment against the president “for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”
The Texas Democrat was one of the lawmakers who initiated Trump’s first impeachment in 2017.
Green represents constituents in Houston, Missouri City and Pearland.
