TEXAS — Beloved Texas burger chain Whataburger is ringing in the new year by bringing back some classic menu items and debuting new ones to celebrate 75 years in business.

Making a comeback this year are the Monterey Melt and the Chicken Fajita Taco. Two new items that honor the chain’s Tex-Mex flavors are also making an entrance this year: the Mexican Hot Chocolate Coffee and the Mexican Hot Chocolate Shake.

The Monterey Melt is a certified fan favorite that was last on the menu in 2022. Whataburger is bringing it back after fans begged for its return through petitions, Instagram DMs, Reddit pages and more. The burger consists of two beef patties, Monterey Jack and American cheese, grilled peppers and onions and jalapeño ranch sauce.

The Chicken Fajita Taco also has peppers and onions accompanied by grilled chicken and snuggled inside a flour tortilla.

Mexican Hot Chocolate is here just in time for the cold weather. It’s available as both hot and iced coffee or as a milkshake.

What else is in store for 2025?

The above items aren’t the only ones making an entrance in 2025. Whataburger says it will be reaching back into the “WhataVault” throughout the year to bring back more discontinued items leading up to its birthday on Aug. 8.

Apart from menu additions, Whatastore deals will be available for $19.50, a callback to the year Whataburger was founded in Corpus Christi 75 years ago. Whataburger Rewards members can also expect “surprises” on the Whataburger app, according to the company.

And in February, Whataburger will celebrate the month of love by giving one superfan couple a “WhataWedding” at its Las Vegas Strip location.

The chain is also partnering with fellow Texas brand Wrangler in the spring to roll out a 24-piece collection of denim jackets, jeans, hats and graphic T-shirts.

Along with bringing back fan favorite menu items, Whataburger also welcomed a new president and CEO, Debbie Stroud, on Jan. 1. Stroud made an appearance in a Whataburger ad on Tuesday announcing the changes in store for this year.
