TEXAS — In response to the approaching winter weather, numerous Texas cities are opening their cold weather shelters.

Expect lows in the 20s for North Texas, around 30 for Austin, and in the low 30s and 40s farther south.

Austin

The City of Austin is opening its shelters Sunday through Thursday.

Registration is open for those seeking shelter at One Texas Center on 505 Barton Springs Road from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The OTC is accessible via bus routes 1, 7, 10, 20, 30, 105, 142 and 801.

Cold weather shelters open if overnight temperatures at Camp Mabry are forecast to be 35 degrees or lower.

Dallas

The City of Dallas has opened cold weather shelters as temperatures reach freezing in North Texas this week.

Here are a few:

Fair Park

The shelter is located at Fair Park in the Grand Place Building, 3701 Grand Ave., Dallas, Texas, 75210. 

The shelter’s hours will extend to include those days when temperatures stay below 36 degrees in wet weather or 32 degrees in dry weather for at least three hours between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Carr P. Collins Social Service Center

This warming shelter is located at 5302 Harry Hines Blvd. and check-in begins at 4 p.m.

San Antonio

Warming shelters are open throughout San Antonio.

City libraries, senior centers and community centers are open during normal hours to provide warmth to residents in need. The city may extend resilience hub hours if the weather turns hazardous.
