AUSTIN, Texas — Austin’s Red River Cultural District is starting off the new year with free live music at all of its venues.
It’s all part of the district’s annual “Free Week,” which was started by Emo’s back in 2003 as a way to promote business during a historically slow time.
The movement has grown over the years and has even expanded to another well-known music city, Nashville.
This year’s Free Week will take place on Friday, Jan. 3, and Saturday, Jan. 4, and dozens of artists will be performing.
Here are all the participating venues:
- Barbarella
- Chess Club
- Cheer Up Charlies
- Elysium
- Empire Control Room and Garage
- Flamingo Cantina
- Mohawk
- Stubb’s
- Swan Dive
- The 13th Floor
- Valhalla
- Vaquero Taquero
The Red River Cultural District is an area in Austin known for its live music scene on and around Red River Street that spans eleven blocks between 4th and 15th streets.
