Texas Longhorns mascot Bevo will not be on the sidelines at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve in Georgia. It’s the second time he won’t be attending a game at the venue.
Peach Bowl organizers announced the decision on Monday in a post to X.
The reason Bevo won’t be at the playoff quarterfinal game is that there is not enough room on the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium to accommodate him safely, according to a statement from the Peach Bowl.
“We love all of the great traditions of college football and no doubt, Bevo is one of the best, but the unfortunate reality is there simply is not enough room on the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” the statement reads.
At 1,700 pounds and a horn span of 58 inches, Bevo has the reputation of being the largest live mascot in college sports.
“With the constraints of the stadium and prioritizing the safety of Bevo, the players, all the network cameras, support staff, cheerleaders, and photographers, we unfortunately will not be able to have Bevo on the field at the CFP Quarterfinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl,” it said in a statement.
Bevo was also barred from the SEC Championship game in Georgia earlier this month for the same reason.
