AUSTIN, Texas — Texas politicians across the political spectrum are reacting to Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Gov. Greg Abbott simply wrote “President Donald J. Trump. The 45th & 47th Presidents of the United States of America. God Bless America.”
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, posted on X Wednesday morning congratulating Trump on his “historic victory” and said he was looking forward to working with him again.
Cornyn, who is looking to become the next Senate majority leader, also posted a statement reacting to Republicans winning a majority of seats in the U.S. Senate.
“Tonight, the American people have roundly rejected Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrat majority’s years of disastrous border policies, reckless spending, and failed management that has caused the Senate to lurch from one avoidable crisis to the next,” Cornyn said.
“From my experience both as Whip advancing President Trump’s agenda through the Senate to serving as a rank-and-file member now, I have learned what works and what does not,” Cornyn went on to say. We will restore the important role of Senate committees and reestablish the regular appropriations process. We will improve communication, increase transparency, and tap into the wealth of talent in the conference to include everyone’s expertise and opinions.”
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in his congratulatory post that he predicted a Trump victory two weeks ago and that he is so proud of Trump and everyone who voted for him.
Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Amarillo, who was Trump’s White House physician, enthusiastically reacted to the news of Trump winning the presidential race.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Dallas, posted a quote from Shirely Chisholm: “Of the two handicaps, being Black is much less of a drawback than being female.” Crockett, who was named a national co-chair of Harris’ campaign, also expressed her pride for the vice president.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Houston, said “America is now much safer, stronger, and more free. Hats off to the 45th and 47th President of the United States.”
Rep. Greg Casar, D-Austin, in a post on X called on people to “organize, care for each other, & fight back through the fear & anger.”
