TEXAS – It’s officially turkey season which means it is almost time to sign up for an annual Thanksgiving tradition – a turkey trot race. 

Here is a list of some turkey trot events happening in Texas this November.

Austin area

Turkey Trails in Georgetown

The Turkey Trails 5K/10K will be held at Southwestern University in Georgetown on Nov. 16 at 7 a.m. There are a multitude of race options, including a virtual race where participants can run anywhere at any time and still receive the race swag.

The swag includes a shirt, running gloves, running pie socks, a festive headband and a medal. Shirts will only be guaranteed to participants who register by Sunday at midnight the weekend before the race. 

Ticket prices range between $15 and $40 depending on age and length of the registered race.

Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot

This year marks the 34th anniversary of Thundercloud Subs’ Turkey Trot. 

The event offers a timed and untimed 5-mile race, a 1-mile race and a kids’ 1K walk/run. A virtual version of the 5-mile and 1-mile tracks are also available.   

The trot will be held on Nov. 28 at 8 a.m. 

Ticket prices range between $15 and $35 depending on age and length of the registered race. The cost of tickets will increase after Nov. 6.

Hill Country Turkey Trot

At 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 28, The Hills Country Club will host its 7th annual 5K Turkey Trot and 1 mile Puffin' for Stuffin'.

Participants can run, walk or jog.

Tickets cost between $20 and $35 depending on the age of the participants and whether the race is timed or not.

Round Rock Turkey Trot 

Fleet Feet Round Rock will host its eighth annual turkey trot at 8 a.m. on Nov. 28, Thanksgiving morning. 

Because Old Settlers Park is undergoing construction, the Fleet Feet Round Rock Turkey Trot will feature an untimed 3.5-mile run. The new route will take participants off-road onto a gravel course. 

To keep racers safe, the turkey trot will be capped at 2,000 people. All paid participants will receive a turkey medal. 

Tickets cost $25 and registration ends on Nov. 27.

Dallas-Fort Worth area

Pumpkin Spice Half Marathon

The Pumpkin Spice run will take place at the Panther Island Pavilion park in Fort Worth on Nov. 23. Participants can choose to sign up for the half marathon, 10K, 5K or virtual race.

Tickets cost between $49 and $99 depending on the length of the race.

At the conclusion of the trot, participants will receive a long-sleeve shirt, medal and post-race treats. An indoor after party will also be available at its finish.

Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot

The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot has been a Thanksgiving tradition for over 55 years.

Participants can register for the annual 5k, 8-mile race or fun run. 

The turkey trot is more than just a race, however. All proceeds from the turkey trot fund the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. The money raised will be used to support programs that help build strong and connected communities 

Participants are encouraged to dress up in a Thanksgiving-themed costume for the race on Nov. 28.

Ticket prices range between $25 and $43 depending on age and length of the race.

Moritz Fort Worth YMCA Turkey Trot

This year will mark the 43rd year of the Moritz Fort Worth YMCA Turkey Trot. 

The race will take place on Nov. 28, Thanksgiving morning, and participants can choose to register for the 8K, 5K or 1K Gobbler trot. Racers can run, jog or walk for fun. 

Not only is the Moritz Fort Worth YMCA Turkey Trot a way to spend time with family and friends on Thanksgiving morning, but 100% of the proceeds from the trot will go towards scholarships for families in the Fort Worth community.

San Antonio area

Gruene Turkey Trot

The 16th annual Gruene Turkey Trot will take place at 8 a.m. on Nov. 28 by Gruene Hall in New Braunfels. 

The trot includes an option for a 5K run and walk and a 0.25 mile kid’s race. 

Registration is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the kid’s trot.

San Antonio Food Bank Turkey Trot

The Commander’s House at H-E-B Arsenal in downtown San Antonio will host the San Antonio Food Bank’s 15th annual Turkey Trot 5k run and walk on Nov. 28 at 8 a.m. 

Proceeds will provide nourishment and meals to families in need.

Tickets are $40 for adult runners/walkers and $10 for kids aging from 4 to 11 with a paid adult.
