DALLAS — With every bite, crunch and munch, the assortment of delicacies at the State Fair of Texas is sure to please. With just six days of fair fun left, Spectrum News had the opportunity to try a variety of savory and sweet foods and we’re here to give a rundown.

Fletcher’s Original Corny Dog

Starting off with a fair classic, this deep fried buttery goodness is battered to perfection. Enjoy every crunchy bite right next to Big Tex, where they’re sold, and take in the views of the crowds. If you’re looking for a classic fair food, look no further than Fletcher’s.

Rousso’s Cotton Candy Bacon on a Stick

If you’re looking to step out of your comfort zone, fair-goers have to stop and try cotton candy bacon on a stick. A melting combustion of cotton candy that is blow-torched on a hefty, thick-cut slice of bacon is sure to melt in your mouth. The sweet, savory treat won this year’s Big Tex awards in the “Best Taste - Sweet” category.

So Eggciting Deviled Eggs

A newcomer to this year’s fair and located inside the Tower building, this take on a Southern delicacy is out of this world. Spectrum News tried the Hot Honey Deviled Eggs and can report that they are a 10/10. Perched on the bed of egg fillings lives the spicy but sweet drizzled chicken. If chicken is not your thing, no worries. There were Texas BBQ Rib Deviled Eggs as well as a seafood option.

Bert’s Burnt Ends

Nick and Vera Bert are from one of the oldest families at the fair and with their new burnt ends, they are solidifying their place for years to come. The Texas Fried Burnt End Bombs will explode in your mouth, filling your taste buds with brisket wrapped with shredded potatoes, bacon and cheese, deep fried and drizzled with a raspberry chipotle barbeque glaze. The raspberry chipotle barbeque glaze was the star of the show and it added a pleasant hint of sweetness to the savory bomb.

Hot Cheetos Korean Corn Dog

It is what you’re imaging, but better. A hot and spicy Korean corn dog that is half hot dog and half mozzarella cheese, then deep fried. The dog gets a drizzle of spicy mayo before rolled in Hot Cheetos, making it a delicious snack.

Churro Crumble Cheesecake

The line for these desserts went out of the door of the Tower building, and for good reason. Your typical New York–style cheesecake is coated in rich Belgian milk chocolate, making it taste almost like an ice-cream cake. The cheesecake is then rolled in a layer of crushed churro crumbles, drizzled with dulce de leche sauce and topped with cinnamon sugar cereal and churro bites. This dessert was inhaled in less than 5 minutes by the Spectrum News team. This dessert will curb any sweet tooth one may have, but make sure you’re prepared to wait in the long line to get your fix.
