AUSTIN, Texas — She enjoyed Texas barbecue and mariscos, danced the night away at the Broken Spoke and proudly sported the burnt orange and white — it’s safe to say Dua Lipa is officially a certified Texan.
The “New Rules” singer showed some love to the Longhorns at Weekend 2 of the Austin City Limits music festival when she threw on a Texas jersey during her set to celebrate No. 1 Texas’ victory against Oklahoma on Saturday.
Training season paid off for the Longhorns as they routed the No. 18 Sooners 34-3 at the teams’ annual Red River Rivalry at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. And Lipa was sure to rep the winning team in their home city.
The custom burnt orange jersey had the singer’s last name on the back with white block lettering and a number one below it. And, an homage to old Austin, the Donn’s Depot logo on the front left side.
“See how loyal I am to you guys?” Lipa said after throwing the jersey on over her burgundy two piece outfit and wearing it throughout her performance of “Be The One.”
When she wasn’t performing to a sea of gleeful fans at Zilker Park, the ACL headliner delighted Texans by visiting several Austin-centric stops during her time in the Capital City.
Lipa seemed to take a tour of South Congress, posing for photos in the aisles of Allens Boots, passing by the "I love you so much" mural at Jo's Coffee and posing by one of the many “She’s beautiful…She’s from Texas” graffiti art pieces that can be found along the sidewalk on Austin’s historic street.
The pop star also visited some of the best restaurants the city has to offer. She enjoyed seafood from Este, the sophomore mariscos restaurant of acclaimed chef Fermín Núñez, and posed for a photo with staff. Then, she stopped by women-owned La Barbecue and went viral for sharing a controversial drink recipe that combines Diet Coke, pickle juice and jalapeño juice.
Lipa’s dance skills shined not only on the American Express stage, but also at the Broken Spoke. The singer visited Austin’s 60-year-old honky tonk on South Lamar, where she swayed to country music with her friends, seemingly unrecognized by the establishment’s regulars. She documented the night on her TikTok, posting a video with the caption “HONKY TONK HEAVEN.”
As if that weren’t Austin enough, she also made it out to Donn’s Depot, a 50-year-old bar on West 5th, and took a photo with the establishment’s namesake and piano player Donn Adelman, who is reportedly a huge fan.
