DALLAS — A visitor at the State Fair of Texas was injured by a startled police horse on Tuesday, the Dallas Police Department said.

In a statement to Spectrum News 1, police said that a Dallas mounted officer was patrolling inside the State Fair at Big Tex Circle at around 3 p.m. when his horse got spooked.

The officer tried to regain control of the horse, and in the process, the visitor was injured.

The officer ended up being bucked off his horse.

Dallas Fire Rescue took the visitor to an area hospital for treatment, and the officer is also being evaluated for injuries. It is unclear the extent of either of their injuries.

After the incident, the horse returned to the mounted barn, and no other injuries were reported.

"The safety of everyone at the State Fair of Texas is our number one priority," State Fair officials said in a statement to Spectrum News 1. "We are deeply saddened that a fairgoer and officer were injured today and we hope they make a full recovery soon."
