ARLINGTON, Texas — Former Texas Rangers pitcher Matt Bush has been arrested and charged after Arlington police said he fled from the scene of a multi-vehicle accident.

On Friday, Oct. 4, just before 8:30 p.m., the Arlington Police Department said they spotted a 2023 Lincoln Aviator “driving erratically” along Pioneer Parkway. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Bush, did not stop.

Minutes later, police said officers were called to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Pioneer Parkway and South Collins Street. Bush’s Lincoln Aviator had allegedly run a red light and collided with a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 41-year-old man.

The initial crash caused the Aviator to collide with two other vehicles stopped at the traffic light, a 2010 GMC Yukon and a 2008 Toyota Corolla.

Arlington police said Bush attempted to flee the scene of the crash on foot but was detained by bystanders who witnessed the collision.

Bush and the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado were the only drivers taken to the hospital, but no one sustained any life-threatening injuries.

APD said Bush refused to take a roadside sobriety test, but based on their observations suspected Bush was intoxicated.

The former Rangers star faces one count of driving while intoxicated, one count of accident involving injury and one count of evading.
